FINDERS KEEPERS' [THESE ARE THE PEOPLE YOU WILL NEVER MEET]
________________________________________________________
Below are the contents of two different but related projects:
*Name* [Faceless Portraits Of Living Furniture] and Finders Keepers' [These Are The People You Will Never Meet].
These series, while I consider different [because of the creating process and how the pieces are handled upon completion] were both a [more durable] continuation of my installation drawings, Imprints [Faceless Portraits of Living Furniture] from my BFA Thesis show.
*Name* [Faceless Portraits Of Living Furniture] Is a series that begins with a person [someone that exist within my "Home" of social relationships; past or present]. My initial intention was to create a quilt similar to that of Imprints [Faceless Portraits of Living Furniture] but after a discussion with a coworker about making 'artist trading cards' instead of christmas cards among coworkers I decided that perhaps these pieces should exist with the people portrayed in them. The type of chair. colors, and thread pattern are all based on my insight into that persons personality [often their chair portrait will match their actual furniture, or colors their favorite colors or house interior wall color schemes, this is however, coincidental, often I do not know such information prior].
Creating pieces for the series *Name* [Faceless Portraits Of Living Furniture] forced me to think in-depth about our relationships with others and the interactions that construct those relationships [or ones we are born into] and how narrow we sometimes might have missed such relationships. After happening upon an article about these mysterious paper sculptures I wanted to create portraits for the future 'social relationships' that I will miss. Finders Keepers' [These Are The People You Will Never Meet] colors and patterns are therefore created by my perceived observations of the chairs personality and gestures.
When completed Finders Keepers' [These Are The People You Will Never Meet] are left in various places [running errands, traveling, vending machines etc.]. The presence of the cards mark the history of my presences at that location, when found creating a connection to someone I will likely never meet. While my name and website are written on the back incase they choose to contact me [I am interested in if these pieces end up traveling] I do not expect any communication with the Finder. The Pieces once found are the Finders to keep for a length of time of their choosing, to hang on their wall or to also hide it in a location of their choice.
While I try to leave these cards in everyday places, I have grown particularly fond of leaving them in art galleries and museums
[particularly if a pedestal is empty]
